Community events organized by the Cambodian American Community of Oregon are for the general public. We pride ourselves on creating cultural awareness and promoting friendship and community. CACO organizes many different events from fundraising to camping. The purpose is to unite and promote Cambodian-American culture.
Each year hundreds of people venture to the outdoors for the CACO
Summer Camping event. In 2004, the event was held at Camp Meriwether a Boy Scouts of America facility located on the coast of Oregon. Popular activities such as canoeing, archery, volleyball, football, and traditional Khmer games were offered. For the past two years we have organized a
Heritage Night to showcase the beautiful and rich Cambodian culture. Traditional dancing and music is highlighted for everyone to enjoy. The 2004 Heritage night was held on New Years Eve and was attended by the mayor of Portland, Mr. Tom Potter. Recently, CACO has organized a fundraising effort for
Pisei Ping a Cambodian-American athlete for her journey to Athens, Greece. She participated in the 2004 Summer Olympics in the sport of table tennis.
New to CACO is a youth group that is completely organized by kids and our Youth Coordinator. They have organized a
Family Bowling Night and a
Snowboarding Trip The youth group is active into community service and promotes fun activities for youths to do.
